Business Days Calculator
Business days, working days and workdays mean the same thing here: working days under your chosen workweek, excluding holidays for the selected country when that toggle is on.
Custom workweek
Tick the weekdays to build a custom workweek pattern. Choosing Mon-Fri, Mon-Sat or Sun-Thu updates the ticks.
Holidays for United States (US) are used when the holidays toggle is on. Regional and state variations are not included for any country. Use custom holidays for them.
Default is 8. Enter a different value, for example 7.5, to change the working-hours output.
Include end date applies only in Count mode.
Example: 2026-12-24 for a Christmas Eve office closure. Add state, local, regional or employer holidays here. Provincial and regional variations are not included in the country tables.

What Is a Business Day?
A business day is a day on which most offices, banks and government agencies are normally open. In this tool, a business day is a day in your chosen workweek that is not a holiday for the selected country when the holidays toggle is on.
Business Days vs Calendar Days
Calendar days count every day, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Business days count only working days under your chosen workweek, minus holidays.
How Counting Works
- Count mode counts both endpoints when they are business days, unless Include end date is off.
- Add and subtract mode does not count the start date. It counts forward or backward to the next business day, one business day at a time.
- Working hours are business days multiplied by the hours per business day you enter.
- Observed rule for United States federal holidays: if a fixed-date holiday falls on a Saturday, it is observed on the preceding Friday. If it falls on a Sunday, it is observed on the following Monday.
Business Days in 2026
2026 has 261 weekdays and 11 observed United States federal holidays, so it has 250 business days for the United States with a Mon-Fri workweek.
| Month | Business days | Month | Business days |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 20 | July | 22 |
| February | 19 | August | 21 |
| March | 22 | September | 21 |
| April | 22 | October | 21 |
| May | 20 | November | 19 |
| June | 21 | December | 22 |
2027 also has 261 weekdays and 12 observed closures falling in 2027, so it has 249 business days. Friday, December 31, 2027 counts as a holiday, observed for January 1, 2028, which falls on a Saturday.
Worked Examples
Monday, October 26, 2026 to Friday, October 30, 2026, with holidays on, gives 5 business days: total 5, non-working 0, working 5, holidays excluded 0, business days 5, and 40 hours at 8 hours per day.
Friday, October 23, 2026 plus 3 business days is Wednesday, October 28, 2026. Friday, October 23, 2026 plus 5 business days is Friday, October 30, 2026.
Business Days in Excel and Google Sheets
To add business days in Excel or Google Sheets, use WORKDAY. For example, WORKDAY(A1, 3) returns the date 3 business days after the date in A1, skipping Saturdays and Sundays by default. To include holidays, list them in a range and use WORKDAY(A1, 3, holidays).
To count business days between two dates, use NETWORKDAYS. For example, NETWORKDAYS(A1, B1) counts business days from A1 to B1, including both endpoints when they are business days. To exclude holidays, use NETWORKDAYS(A1, B1, holidays).
Remember: in Excel, WORKDAY and NETWORKDAYS skip Saturdays and Sundays by default. If your schedule differs, use WORKDAY.INTL and NETWORKDAYS.INTL with a weekend pattern, or use the custom workweek in this calculator.

Business Days Worked Examples
Each example uses United States (US) holidays, a Monday to Friday workweek, holidays on, and include end date on. The arithmetic is: total calendar days, minus weekend days, minus listed holidays, equals business days.
Example 1: Thanksgiving week
Start date: Monday, November 23, 2026. End date: Friday, November 27, 2026.
5 total calendar days - 0 weekend days - 1 listed holiday (Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, 2026) = 4 business days
Example 2: A span that includes a weekend
Start date: Wednesday, October 28, 2026. End date: Sunday, November 1, 2026.
5 total calendar days - 2 weekend days (Saturday, October 31, 2026; Sunday, November 1, 2026) - 0 listed holidays = 3 business days
Example 3: A plain working week
Start date: Monday, October 26, 2026. End date: Friday, October 30, 2026.
5 total calendar days - 0 weekend days - 0 listed holidays = 5 business days
Business Days in Excel and Google Sheets
Excel and Google Sheets use the same idea. NETWORKDAYS counts business days between two dates, and WORKDAY moves a date forward or backward by a number of business days. Both skip Saturdays and Sundays by default, and both can exclude a list of holidays.
NETWORKDAYS(DATE(2026,11,23), DATE(2026,11,27), holidays) returns 4, the same result as Example 1, when the holidays range contains November 26, 2026. NETWORKDAYS excludes the listed holidays, and its weekend is Saturday to Sunday by default.
WORKDAY(DATE(2026,11,23), 3, holidays) returns Friday, November 27, 2026, with the same holidays range. Counting forward, Tuesday, November 24, 2026 is 1, Wednesday, November 25, 2026 is 2, Thursday, November 26, 2026 is skipped as a holiday, and Friday, November 27, 2026 is 3.
Holiday Sources
Holiday calendars are verified against official lists:
- United States: the US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) federal holidays.
- United Kingdom: GOV.UK bank holidays.
- Canada: Government of Canada statutory holidays.
Holiday calendars for France, Germany, Ireland, and Spain follow the same official-calendar approach. For an exact count for a different country or date range, use the calculator above.
