Months From Today Calculator

Quick presets

Calculation method: the calculator moves whole calendar months forward or backward from the reference date, keeping the same day of the month. If that day does not exist in the target month (for example, January 31 plus one month), the result is the last day of that month instead. Dates are handled at UTC midnight, so time zones and daylight saving changes never shift the answer. The direction selector controls past vs. future; the number field accepts zero or positive whole numbers only.

The day counts differ because months have different lengths: 6 months after today and 6 months before today are not the same number of days.

What the Months From Today Calculator Does

A Months From Today calculator answers a simple question: if you count a certain number of whole calendar months forward or backward from a starting date, what date do you land on? If you are asking "what date is six months from today?", enter 6, keep the direction set to "In the Future," and it tells you the exact date 6 months from today. Choose "In the Past" instead, and it tells you what date it was that many months ago. The starting point is today by default, but you can also pick any custom start date.

How to Calculate a Date Months From Today

  1. Enter the number of months in the calculator above (for example, 6).
  2. Keep the direction on "In the Future" — or switch to "In the Past" to find a date that has already gone by. To start from a different day, open the custom start date option and pick it.
  3. Press Calculate Date and read the exact date, its weekday, and the total number of days it covers.

Working it out by hand uses the same rule: keep the same day of the month and count forward one month at a time. For example, 6 months after March 10, 2026 is September 10, 2026. The one catch is the end of the month: if the target month does not have your day in it, land on its last day instead. January 31 plus one month is February 28 (February 29 in a leap year), and November 30, 2026 plus three months is February 28, 2027.

Examples: 1, 3, 6, and 12 Months

These are the spans people look up most:

  • 1 month is 28 to 31 days, depending on the month you start in. Common for billing cycles, subscriptions, and notice periods.
  • 3 months is 89 to 92 days, roughly one quarter. Often used for project phases, probation periods, and seasonal planning.
  • 6 months is 181 to 184 days, half a year. Common for reviews, savings goals, and medium-term deadlines.
  • 12 months is 365 or 366 days, exactly one year, landing on the same date next year.

Try the preset buttons above the Calculate button to get any of these instantly.

Months or Weeks: Which Should You Count?

Months suit anything the calendar itself runs on: rent, contracts, subscriptions, and deadlines quoted in whole months. When the span is naturally counted in weeks, the Weeks From Today Calculator counts forward or backward in weeks, and the Days From Today Calculator gives day-level precision. If you already have two dates and want the span between them, the Days Between Dates Calculator and the Weeks Between Dates Calculator measure that gap directly.

Calendar Months, Not 30-Day Blocks

This calculator counts calendar months, not fixed 30-day blocks. Months run from 28 to 31 days, so adding 6 months is not the same as adding 180 days. From October 23, for example, 180 days lands on April 21, 2027, while 6 calendar months lands on April 23, 2027. The calculator follows the real calendar, so short months, long months, and leap years are handled for you, including February 29 start dates, which land on February 28 in a later year that has no February 29.

Frequently Asked Questions

What date is 6 months from today?

Exactly 6 calendar months ahead of today, on the same day of the month: the half-year mark. For example, 6 months after January 15 is July 15. The Quick Date Guide on this page shows today's exact date.

What date is 3 months from today?

Exactly 3 calendar months ahead of today, on the same day of the month. That span covers 89 to 92 days depending on which months it crosses. For example, 3 months after January 15 is April 15. The Quick Date Guide on this page shows today's exact date.

What happens if I start on January 31?

The result is the last day of the target month. January 31 plus one month is February 28, or February 29 in a leap year, because February has no 31st. The same rule applies whenever the target month is shorter, such as March 31 plus one month becoming April 30.

Is a month always 30 days?

No. Calendar months run from 28 to 31 days, which is why 6 months can be anywhere from 181 to 184 days. This calculator counts real calendar months, so the length of each month in your span is counted correctly.

Can I use a start date other than today?

Yes. Click Use a custom start date instead of today and pick any date. The calculation then runs from the date you chose.

Can I find a date that was months in the past?

Yes. Switch the direction to "In the Past" and enter the number of months. The calculator subtracts that many calendar months from the reference date, using the same month-end rule.

Are my dates sent anywhere?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser. Your dates never leave your device.

What is 6 months from today?

Count six calendar months forward from today, keeping the same day of the month where possible. If the target month is shorter, the result lands on its last day. Use the calculator above to get the exact date and weekday.
